    EDUCATION

Julie Cardello, LCSW, (she/her/hers) received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work from California University of Pennsylvania (now Penn West University).  She served as president of the Social Work Student Association her junior year of undergraduate studies.

    CREDENTIALS/PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Julie worked at Western Pennsylvania Hospital (West Penn) in the social services and case management department for 4 years.  She then went on to  a travel position serving hospitals throughout the country performing case management and social services for the next ten years.  These positions allowed Julie to offer counseling and support to patients and families facing emotional distress due to illness, injury, or hospitalization.  She then connected them with resources and services, such as financial assistance, rehabilitation, drug and alcohol counseling or mental health support.  Julie most enjoyed responding to crisis situations and helping patients and families navigate complex medical decisions.  Julie has spent the last year at a community health clinic working with a wide range of mental health diagnosis.  She looks forward to working specifically with clients experiencing depression, anxiety and significant life events (divorce, loss of a loved one, moving, and changes in roles.)

    SPECIAL INTERESTS

Julie’s interest in breathwork and somatic exercises (physical movements and techniques designed to enhance body awareness, facilitate the release of tension, and promote emotional healing) have kept her learning about the mind-body connection for the last 20 years.  She received her yoga teacher certification after practicing as a student for 10 years. Special clinical interests include adults and senior citizens, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, grief, and significant life transitions.

Julie’s treatment utilizes interventions based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, somatic exercises, and mindfulness.
