EDUCATION
Kara Peters, LCSW, MPH (she/her/hers) received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Fordham University. She received her graduate degrees in clinical social work and public health from the University of Pittsburgh.
CREDENTIALS/PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Kara worked at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s Center for Adolescent and Young Adult Health (CAYAH) for six years as a social worker and behavioral health therapist. During this time, she worked with young people experiencing anxiety, depression, gender dysphoria, and ADHD. She supervised and trained graduate social work and psychology students. Kara led a team of interdisciplinary providers to implement and improve CAYAH’s integrated behavioral health model to ensure greater access to behavioral health services
SPECIAL INTERESTS
Kara is an LGBTQ-affirming therapist with seven years of experiencing working with gender diverse youth and their families.
Special clinical interests include adolescent/young adults, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, adjustment disorders, ADHD, and gender transition.
Kara’s treatment utilizes interventions based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness.
