EDUCATION
Kim Weiner, Ph.D. received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Buffalo and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She also has a Masters in Music degree from SUNY Stonybrook. She completed an APA accredited internship from the Counseling and Psychological Services at Penn State University
CREDENTIALS/PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Dr. Weiner has specialized in working with the developmental and mental health issues of young adults. Until recently, she worked at the Indiana University of PA Counseling Center, where she saw a diverse range of clients with varying problems and issues, including depression and anxiety disorders, assault and trauma, grief, gender identity, and disordered eating, among others.
Before her career in College Counseling, she also worked as a Clinical Specialist in the Anxiety Disorders Center at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. During her tenure at IUP, Dr. Weiner served 9 years as the Department Chair, individually supervised doctoral students from the Psychology Department, and was integrally involved in campus mental health programs, training and research.
SPECIAL INTERESTS
Special interests include treatment of anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, relationship issues, grief and trauma, and life changes and adjustment. Additional interests include LBGTQI, and the culturally and racially diverse. Areas of clinical interest are mindfulness-based approaches, ACT, Coherence Therapy, Internal Family Systems, developmental and attachment-based therapies, and supervision.
THINGS YOU WOULD FIND ME DOING ON THE WEEKENDS
Gardening, playing the violin, meditating, reading, walking, and cooking with friends. Could be seen at a theatre production or concert!
