Testing and Consultation
Neuropsychological Testing and Educational Testing
AMHA has psychologists on staff with the training and expertise to complete neuropsychological testing. Neuropsychological testing helps patients and other providers understand the relationship between brain function and behavior. Depending on the reason for your referral for testing, neuropsychological testing explores intelligence, executive functions (such as planning, abstraction, conceptualization), attention, memory, language, perception, sensorimotor functions, motivation, mood state and emotion, quality of life, and personality styles. Psychologists at AMHA test to assess cognitive function for diagnosis of dementia, assess people following head injury, MS and other neurological conditions. In addition, AMHA offers testing for the assessment of ADHD in children and adults. We also test for other learning disabilities.
ADOS Testing
The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a semi-structured standardized assessment that creates contexts in which to observe autism spectrum-related symptoms and behaviors for children as young as 12-months of age through adulthood. The assessment takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the individual, and the clinician will ask the examinee to engage in various tasks in order to assess for certain behaviors and social interactions consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is important to note that the ADOS-2 assessment results should be considered along with the overall evaluation, including a comprehensive evaluation to review developmental history, behavioral observations, as well as rating scales by key informants close to the individual, in order to determine whether or not a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is appropriate.
